MESSAGE FROM VICE CHANCELLOR OF BLDE (DEEMED TO BE UNIVERSITY)
I warmly welcome you to the UNESCO/UNITWIN Network Conference 2020 at BLDE (Deemed to be University), Vijayapur, Karnataka, India to be held on August 6-7, 2020. I am trully excited about the scientific sessions, and wide variety of ideas that scholars and practitioners will bring into our fold. This richness of ideas promise well for the scientific growth and exchanges of knowledge in the field of life sciences particularly on health sciences under UNESCO/UNITWIN networking institutions. The theme for this year’s conference, “Current concepts of Environmental Pollution by Electromagnetic field and Corona Virus” is particularly appropriate in the era of climate change where basic science research can be translated in applied sciences to benefit mankind.I greatly appreciate Prof.Sinerik Ayrapetyan and UNESCO/UNITWIN Coordinators to select BLDE (Deemed to be University), Vijayapur, India as host organizer of this historical science conference. The successful organization of this conference has required the talents, dedication and time of many volunteers as participants, students, researchers, faculty members, professional and strong support from sponsors. We are sure that we shall get all the required supports to make this conference a memorable one in the history of any scientific endeavours.I hope all of you will enjoy a pleasant stay and active participation of science here at BLDE (Deemed to be University) campus and also enjoy the rich historiacal and cultural heritage of Vijayapur and north Karnataka.
The Sponsoring Society of the University,–BLDE Association was established in 1910 in historical city of Vijayapura IN Karnataka state of India. The Society has been committed to the cause of imparting quality education – from primary to University and meeting the health care needs of the people in the backward region of North Karnataka. The Association has been nurtured and shaped by educationists, philanthropists and sages like Dr. P. G. Halakatti, known as ‘Vachana Pitamah’ in Kannada Literature, Shri Sanganabasaveshwar Maha Shivayogigalu of Banthanal, a great religious leader and Shri. B. M. Patil, a great statesman and visionary. Presently, the Association is guided by enthusiastic and dynamic leader Dr. M. B. Patil.
The constituent college of the BLDE (Deemed to be University), Shri B. M. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre was established in 1986 with 24 departments and a teaching hospital with 1125 beds. The hospital provides Teaching-Learning-Training facility to MBBS & MD/MS/M.Ch/Ph.D./M.Sc. in Allied Health Sciences students and primary to tertiary health care services to patients. The Institute has been recognized or accredited by the MCI, UGC, NAAC and SIRO by DSIR- Government of India. The Institutional Ethics Committee, Animal Ethics Committee and FCRA are registered and recognized till 2022-23.BLDE(DU) came into existence on 29/2/2008 as a single faculty- Medical Sciences-University, with a unitary campus of 55 acres. Adjoining to teaching hospital, a Super Speciality Hospital with 250 beds is being set up with the State-of-Art facilities for all super specialization.
BLDE (DU) has ranked 9th among Top Medical University in India, as per India Today Ranking Survey 2019.Research activities are priorities of faculties resulted in numerous publications, research grants from national and international organization including NIH/WHO etc. The Institution has active MoUs (22), collaborations (10) and agreements (08) with national & international organizations. It is a training centre for International students from various countries in area of Medical Research. The University is having credit to co-host offshore International Symposium at Zubieta University, La Paz, Bolivia in 2019 besides hosting multiple national and international conferences, workshops and seminars.BLDE (DU) has been bringing out the Journal entitled BLDE University Journal of Health Sciences, published by Wolters-Kluwer Publishers, which has been indexed in Copernicus and enlisted in UGC CARE list. The Institute has established the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and Incubation Centre for Research with focus on IPR/Startups as per the Norms of MHRD, and GoI.
The campus is digitally connected through optical fibre backbone with 120 + 80 mbps, to enhance and upgrade the research facility and trainings in Central Research Lab, Molecular Biology Unit, Laboratory of Vascular Physiology & Medicine, Voice Laboratory, Genetics Lab, virtual CMEs, live streaming and research club etc.The Central Library, with a floor area of 2,400 m2 has a seating capacity of 691 and is fully air-conditioned and ICT enabled. The library has nearly 20,000 books, 177 print journals, subscribes 2328 e-journals and Digital Library with 40 workstations for students and faculty members. Other facilities include software for statistical analysis, plagiarism check, Institutional Repository, remote access. The reading facility is available 24×7 and 365 days.As a part of social responsibility District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) in mode of Public-Private Partnership with Government of Karnataka has been providing all kinds of health care facilities, prostheses and support to differently-abled people of the district was awarded “Best Quality Service Providing Institution” by the Government of Karnataka. The Geriatric Clinic of BLDE (DU) is been conferred the State Award for “Best Geriatric Clinic” by Govt. of Karnataka. The Institute has adopted Inclusive School to support and provide health care equipments to differently-abled students.BLDE(DU) is providing health care services to socially disadvantaged sections of the society, both in rural and urban areas. Established Rural Health Training Centre at Ukkali village and is equipped with state-of-art facilities covering 50,000 populations has become hub for research in epidemiology and rural health care services. .
The Institution has participated and is been recognized by MHRD, GOI for “UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN”. The Institution has tied up with National Thermal Power Corporation of India for imparting health services. Five students of our institution has been recognized and awarded for summer internship by ‘SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAAN”. Recently, the Institution has been recognized by Kayakalp Scheme, an initiative of Government of India. Wellness clinic, stroke and cardiac rehabilitation centre with yoga has been established to provide better health services to the community. The Institute has been regularly conducting public health awareness and prevention programs like Radio talk (Arogyadangala), free health camps with Govt., NGOs and Local organizations. The Institution has functional Red Cross, NSS Unit, Alumni Association , Placement cell and grievance Redressal mechanism under special provision like Anti Ragging Cell, Anti discrimination Cell, Woman Empowerment Committee , Internal Complaints Committee for prevention of Sexual Harassment, Barrier Free access to persons with disabilities.BLDE(DU) held Seven Convocations and awarded 906 degrees (UG, PG, Diploma, Fellowship, and Ph.D.) to successful candidates. Every year BLDE(DU) recognizes researchers by conferring senior and young scientist. The University celebrates Annual Research Day, regularly.
